Constellation Mill – Radcliffe

Job Description

We were honored to work with Abbotts Buildings Ltd on the restoration of Constellation Mill, a former cotton mill originally known as Black Lane Mill, located at the corner of Hardman Street and Ainsworth Road in Radcliffe. This historic building, dating back to the mid-1800s, has been converted into smaller units, retaining its rich industrial heritage.

Over the course of seven months, our team at Holland Pointing poured everything into this project. Working primarily from mast climbers, we faced challenging weather conditions but stayed committed to delivering exceptional results. The restoration included:

• Raking out 1200m² of existing mortar with dust extraction.
• Repointing the masonry using natural hydraulic lime mortar for a breathable and durable finish.
• Replacing 1000 bricks with reclaimed materials to maintain the building’s authenticity.
• Completing the restoration with a light acid clean for a refreshed, polished appearance.

The project was a true labor of love, and we’re proud to have brought this piece of history back to life. Our client was thrilled with the quality of our work, as well as our passion and determination. We’re delighted to share that we’ve been invited back next year for additional restoration work on the mill!

It’s been a privilege for the Holland Pointing team to contribute to preserving this historic landmark.
