Lime Mortar

On old/historical buildings, they were built using lime, therefore it has to be repaired using a lime mortar.

Lime allows the building to breathe and is absorbent and flexible, it moves with the building with time when the building moves naturally.

If the mortar is too hard for the brick, the brick is the first element to fail, causing damp issues inside. Lime absorbs the weather, therefore it is essential to use the correct materials.

Cement was introduced in the 1920s, and due to its lower cost, it became the preferred material for constructing many buildings built after that decade. Here at Holland Pointing, we have a huge passion for heritage work and also the knowledge to restore old buildings back to their originality. We use and source the best aggregates and NHL 3.5 hydraulic lime suited to the projects.
